A unique initiative in Anantapur, Chittoor district s of Andhra Pradesh by the Department of Agriculture, AP State Seed Development Corporation, AP State Seed Certification Agency in partnership with civil society and farmers organizations. The initiative promotes ManaVittana Kendra – (Farmers’ Seed Centers) that takes groundnut seed from the research system & authorized seed agencies, multiplies and distributes them to farmers along with officials of Dept of Agriculture within the cluster of village supported by a facilitating organization. MVKs source the working capital to pay to seed producing farmers and Department of Agriculture extends subsidy to farmers. Seed is rarely needs to move out of the village! The system allows the ManaVittana Kendras to extend the processes to local land races/ crops of the MVK’s choice. All the facilitation costs are included in the seed sale price. WASSAN is nominated as Lead technical Agency (LTA) for CMSS by Dept of Agriculture. CMSS is integrated into APDMP project and being implementing in 5 Districts of AP
